People will improve their scrapbooking skills the more they do it, but I’ll teach you the things that helped my pages immensely, so that your pages can go from plain to aesthetic in a matter of seconds
1. Layering
Scrapbooking or junk journaling will lead people to have a lot of colorful paper lying around, or a bunch of stickers they haven’t used for the right occasion, to the point where they pile up, and they’ll have a hoarder hobby instead of a journaling hobby. To prevent that, I urge you guys to start layering everything that matches, and of course, the one that will always match is a Polaroid machine (ShopeeMY).
Stickers on top of bigger stickers, a bunch of colored paper taped into a small collage, even Post-it notes on top of washi tapes (ShopeeMY) would be pretty good, even the plain washi tapes (ShopeeMY).
Don’t worry about a page looking bad, cause you’re still learning, and it’s mostly about color theory and putting them together. Most beginners just cut and paste randomly according to their gut feeling, and that is the best way to start, cause an ugly page won’t ruin your life; it would show that you improved, but the easiest way to improve is to use a bunch of colorful cardstock colored paper (ShopeeMY) that matches your theme or page, especially when you can shape them using decorative scissors (ShopeeMY)
2. Doodles
This is a skill that doesn’t take time to learn, especially if the doodles you’d rather draw are random squiggles all throughout your pages, but if you wanna draw cute characters or little animals, those skills come into drawing artist territory, which should be easy for you drawing artist, already. I always use acrylic markers to squiggle, especially white or black, and the best ones to use are the opaque ones
For expensive ones, I recommend Enemy markers (ShopeeMY), but these cheap acrylic markers (ShopeeMY) ones should suffice; they aren’t as opaque
3. Writing notes
One of the struggles of scrapbooking is to fill out the page as much as possible without making it look mundane, and one of the ways is to make simple short notes glue taped on the pages. Whether it’s 1 paragraph or 1 short sentence all around the book, these little notes emphasize feelings on the topic of what you’re scrapbooking about. And I usually use a small notebook with lined paper (ShopeeMY), then rip it according to the size of the writings, and you can even doodle on the paper and then paste it on the pages
4.White spaces
I did say scrapbooking struggles to fill the pages as much as possible, but there are times when putting nothing balances out a page more than it does if you fill the whole thing and everything gets crowded. So use empty spaces to your advantage to balance the assets of your stickers, layering, colored paper, and any other trinkets you have
One of the best reasons to start scrapbooking is that scrapbooking does not need expensive supplies or even artisitic talent to start, cause the most important thing is to have a good ammout of the basic tools to start, just so the start of the scrapbook journey can be enjoyable for you. Don’t worry too much, just have fun and experiment till your heart’s content, cause even if you make an ugly one today, you’ll see that nothing has to be perfect, it just has to be there, so we can see ourselves struggle a little bit. ,
